ITSS manages and supports a number of large scale computer systems that provide a variety of network services to UMD students, faculty and staff. These servers include Unix, Novell, Macintosh and Windows NT/2000 servers. Following is a brief description of the network services available.
ITSS hosts the campus mail server and supports a number of email clients, including Mulberry, pine, and IMP Webmail. All students are given an Internet/email account when they complete orientation or register; faculty and staff can request an account at any time.

ITSS manages the campus web server (www.d.umn.edu), which provides web space for both personal and official UMD web pages.

ITSS supports Unix, Appletalk, Samba and Novell print services. Students can print to the networked printers in the labs using the Uniprint system. Faculty and staff can print to departmental printers from Unix, Macintosh and Windows applications.

All users can store files in their central system area, in an AUFS volume (Mac users only), or in a Samba directory (Windows users only). Optionally, faculty/staff with Novell access can store their files on the office server as well as share files with other Novell users. Files stored on any ITSS servers are backed up nightly and can be restored on request.

All users can access a variety of Unix software packages on the central systems. Students have access to a large variety of desktop and computing software in the student computing labs. Faculty and staff can request Novell access to use the Windows and Macintosh desktop software on the Novell Office server.
