Marketing Cloud is our new mass email system.
On September 1 the University’s previous mass email system, Lyris, was retired due to outdated and unsupported hardware and software. It was replaced by a new application, Salesforce Marketing Cloud (formerly Exact Target).
ITSS and OIT staff migrated over 24 departments on the Duluth campus to the new system over the summer.
With Marketing Cloud comes improved features and new functionality. Email templates and content can easily be created, personalized, and even shared with other users. Specific University of Minnesota Duluth templates have been developed by ITSS and shared with the Marketing Cloud community for general use. The new templates ensure proper branding, accessibility, and federal CAN-SPAM law requirements are met. Templates were built to be responsive, which means that text and images will automatically resize for optimal viewing on a range of screen sizes from mobile to desktop.
Marketing Cloud also introduces new reporting features. The reporting functions allow users to view many useful statistics about emails, such as delivery and open rates, click-throughs, forwards and unsubscribes. This information can help units determine what’s working in email communications and also where to make improvements.
