On Friday, October 31, 2014, ITSS shutdown local email delivery service. Starting November 1, all email addressed to UMD email accounts that have not migrated into Gmail will be bounced back with the message: "Account permanently disabled."
This change will not impact most email users, since the majority are already in Gmail. Units dealing with health care data were the last group to move into Gmail due to the security requirements surrounding private health data. This group was able to opt into Gmail last year after the University finalized a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with Google.
Local email delivery service finally retired after almost three decades of service. Thank you to the UMD email crew, the heroes behind the scenes, providing service all these years. The UMD email staff will continue to run email routing to Google, listservs, and infrastructure/office systems email.
