Captioning Video

Do you have video material on the Web or use it in your courses? Are these materials captioned?

Icon: Closed Captions Captions provide a text alternative to multimedia content and benefit the Deaf and Hard of Hearing as well as a variety of people and situations. Specifically, captions are the text of spoken dialogue and sound effects from the original soundtrack displayed on screen in real time.

When we talk about Web captioning we generally have two main categories. One is captioning of pre-recorded videos and the other is real-time captioning of streaming live events.

If you deal with either type of material you have a role and responsibility. The following provides information regarding what to do and under what conditions and why.
