Making Power Point presentations on campus

by Roger Petry

On-line presentations are becoming increasingly popular and many people on campus use Microsoft PowerPoint to prepare their presentations. However, when you prepare a presentation with PowerPoint for use on a different computer, it is important to know the version of PowerPoint on the computer from which the presentation will be given.

If the version of PowerPoint on the computer used for showing the presentation is earlier than the version used to create the presentation, you must save your presentation in the format of the earlier version.

After selecting either "File - Save:" or "File - Save As:", specify the appropriate "Save as Type:". To see a list of format types, mouse-click on the arrow-button located at the right side of the "Save as Type:" window (see figure below). The default format is "Presentation"; select the format for the version you will be using.

Please keep in mind that when you save a PowerPoint version 7.0 or 97 presentation in PowerPoint 4.0 format, features unique to PowerPoint versions 7.0 or 97 are lost. Your PowerPoint manual will indicate which features will either be converted or lost when you save a presentation in an earlier version. [an error occurred while processing this directive]
