Digital imaging lab coming to campus

Thanks to the efforts of Chancellor Martin and others, UMD is building a digital imaging laboratory on campus. This research facility will be available to faculty and research staff for the purpose of developing visual images that display data, designs, and information in new ways.

The room that will house the digital imaging lab is currently under construction. It is scheduled to be completed by mid-April. We hope to move forward soon to make decisions about equipment that will be purchased for this laboratory.

To help us make that decision, in January and February we hosted three computer equipment vendors on campus to demonstrate possible equipment for the new facility.

IBM Corporation demonstrated their Intellistation. This is a high-end Pentium machine with high-end graphic capabilities.

Silicon Graphics, Inc., demonstrated two pieces of equipment:
