Microsoft Campus Agreement Renewal Planning Begins
In July of 2001, ITSS and 18 other UMD departments enrolled in the Microsoft Campus Agreement Program - a software leasing arrangement under which participating departments pay an annual fee to Microsoft based on the number of FTE faculty and staff in their department. The departments are then licensed to run any version of the Microsoft software products included in the agreement on all of their department owned computers. This includes product upgrades that occur within the one year term of the agreement. At the end of the year, any software acquired under MS Campus Agreement must be removed from all computers on which it is installed if the Campus Agreement is not renewed.

It's time for currently enrolled departments to start planning for renewal of our Microsoft Campus Agreement, which expires on July 31st. This is also the time for other departments to decide if they want to enroll for the coming year, because once the agreement is in place, no departments can be added until the next renewal. There are significant differences between the Campus Agreement 2.0 (our current agreement) and Campus Agreement 3.0, which is the new offering from Microsoft, and we'll all want to understand the differences before we decide on renewal options.

On Friday, April 26th at 2:00PM in SBE 20, our Microsoft representative, Charolette Olson, will meet with us to review our current coverage, changes to 3.0 agreement, and the benefits and reasons to sign up. We encourage interested departments to have their representative attend this session on April 26th.
