Network Upgrades

During the March Spring Break period ITSS staff converted access to central servers from shared 100 megabit access to shared gigabit access. Connections to nearly all servers supported by ITSS are 100 megabits now. This provides additional headroom for large bandwidth transfers for our basic services, such as electronic mail, web access, streaming video, and data base access. Improvements to the main feeds to several computer labs were finished, and feeds within some of the labs were also upgraded.

ITSS has plans this summer to install faster backbone links to several buildings that show high bandwidth needs. Eventually almost all buildings will be attached at gigabit speeds, but we will start with those that currently require high bandwidth for mission critical data needs.
