Upcoming Change in all Classrooms: Authentication
In order to comply with UofM network security policy, ITSS will be converting all non-office ethernet connections to require authentication. The rationale for this change is to ensure that only authorized people (UMD faculty, staff, and students) have access to our network. This means that to use ethernet connections in classrooms you will need to go to the authentication web page and enter your UMD username and password. This will need to be done before you can connect to other web pages, run email programs, etc. This change will be made gradually in classrooms, beginning with the SBE classrooms.
We will keep you informed via documentation placed on the web and at the ethernet jack in the affected classroom as rooms are brought into the authentication mode.
This will not affect using PowerPoint presentations, etc. that you bring in on your computer or zip disk. It only affects using Netscape, Internet Explorer, or applications that require connecting to a server.
