February 2003 Brings New Upgrade of PeopleSoft
*** The following are excerpts taken from various PeopleSoft V8 upgrade announcements from the Twin Cities Office of Information Technology (OIT). ***
The current University HR and Student Systems, better known as PeopleSoft V7.6, will be upgrading to version 8. This upgrade will cause the existing system to be strictly "view only" from the close of business on Friday, February 14, 2003 to the morning of Monday, February 24, 2003. At the time PeopleSoft V8 becomes available, you will need a web browser to access it and you will no longer need a client-install on your desktop. Users will still have remote access to V8 but only through the U of M modem pool or through Virtual Private Network (VPN).
With PeopleSoft V8, a few changes in software and hardware may be needed. Internet Explorer (IE) is the recommended browser for accessing PeopleSoft. There are some known problems using Netscape with PeopleSoft V8 that won't be fixed until a later version. See the chart below for operating systems and compatible browsers. The recommended hardware requirements for a PC are 800 MHz Pentium-class processor or equivalent (133 MHz minimum), the higher the CPU - the faster page rendering and refresh times, 256 MB of RAM is recommended for Windows 2000 or earlier operating systems, and 512 MB for Windows XP. No recommendations have been published yet the MAC.
Operating System Internet Explorer Netscape Mac OS 7.5 and above 5 - Mac OS 7.6.1 and above (8, 9, X) - 4.72 Win98 5, 5.5, 6 4.7x, 6.1 Windows 2000 5, 5.5, 6 4.7x, 6.1, 6.2 Windows XP 6 6.2
Login security is also going to change. You will go through the Central Authentication Hub (CAH) and will use your X.500 ID and your Enterprise password (this may be different from your Internet password). To create and/or change your Enterprise password, go to the U of M Internet Account Options web page and select the Change Password option. This password will need to be reset every 100 days.
There will be a slight change in the command that is used to print from PeopleSoft. The command was * +P-dqueuename and in V8 you will no longer need the * +P-d before the queue name.
Will this upgrade affect the data warehouse and management reports?
The Data Warehouse tables will remain accessible while the production system is upgraded but will contain information from February 14, 2003 and will remain unchanged until the morning of Tuesday, February 25, 2003. Management Reports will reflect the same date of information as the Data Warehouse; however, it will be unavailable Tuesday, February 25, 2003 and will be accessible Wednesday, February 26, 2003 with refreshed PS V8 data.
