Microsoft Campus Agreement Under Development
ITSS has been coordinating a campus effort to purchase the Microsoft Campus Agreement for those campus departments that would like to participate. We are very close to completing this agreement, so act now if you are interested in participating.

This is a program whereby an entire department pays an annual fee based on the number of FTE faculty and staff in the department. For that fee much of the Microsoft software is then available for use on any departmentally owned computers, including those in labs. The need to document the number of licenses purchased is eliminated because all computers in the department are covered. The software that's included is:

MS Office Standard & Professional Editions
MS Office Macintosh Edition
MS Windows Upgrades
MS BackOffice Server Client Access License
MS FrontPage
MS Visual Studio Professional Edition
MS Office Starts Here/Step by Step Interactive by MS Press

It specifically does NOT include compilers, MS Project, or Visio (Project is an add-on product but the cost to add this for the relatively few individuals who need it is prohibitive). Note also that it includes Windows Upgrades, which means you must have purchased some version of a MS operating system in order to be eligible to use the upgrade.

There is an annual fee that is based on the Fall UMD figures reported by the UofMN represented in IPEDS Form S. We get these figures from Institutional Research at the time we write the agreement with MS.

We need a combination of departments that includes 500 or more FTE before we can buy into this plan. We are very close to this number now, and we are asking departments who are interested to make a commitment as soon as possible. We plan to base the agreement on the fiscal year calendar.

If your department is interested in participating, it may not be too late. Please contact Steve Patterson (spatters, 8785) as soon as possible. Once the agreement is signed for the year, no departments will be able to add to the agreement until the following year.
