What's New with Faculty Web Services?
We have added some new features, upgraded some software, and have something new in the wings for you!
The webdrop folder allows students to submit work electronically in one, secure location. This keeps the instructor's email box from overflowing and helps organize the grading process while allowing students to use a convenient, web-based submission page.
New this semester: instructors can upload graded files for their students to retrieve! If the files can be annotated and re-saved by the instructor, they can be placed in a secure web-box for students to pick up at their convenience using a web-browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
At the end of fall semester, we purchased the new version of this increasingly-popular test and survey-taking software. Test Pilot has proven useful at UMD for a number of related tasks:
· Taking on-line, web-based tests in a supervised lab environment
· Taking automatically scored self-assessments
· Giving review worksheets with automatic scoring and feedback
Version 4 of Test Pilot allows for shared question banks and for instructor feedback on essay questions, two of the most commonly requested enhancements.
Generic Grade Posting
Post grades securely on the web using one of several different grade management programs including: Gradekeeper, the UNIX Gradebook, and Excel. If your favorite grade management program can export the correct file type, your students will be able to check their grades from anywhere, using a standard web browser.
For more information on any of these web-based programs, contact Barbara Z Johnson (email@example.com or ext. 6862) or Bruce Reeves (firstname.lastname@example.org or ext. 6831). Or, you can find more information about these and other programs at the Web Tools and Services home page at <http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/facstaff/WebServices.html>
