Microsoft Office on the Office Server
ITSS currently offers several versions of MS Office products on our Novell office server. The most current versions are Office XP for Windows and Office 2001 for Macintosh. It is our intent to limit new software applications (and upgrades to existing applications) on the office server to software that may be licensed for concurrent use. Concurrent use allows many users to share few licenses, given that the number of concurrent users is restricted to the number of licenses purchased.

Microsoft no longer allows concurrent licensing for any of their products. Therefore, we will no longer be updating MS Office products on the office server. Current users will continue to have access to the existing office server versions, but they will need to consider alternatives when they want to upgrade to newer versions of MS Office. We believe that renewing our MS Campus Agreement program for the coming year or other Microsoft volume licensing options will provide affordable alternatives to UMD departments wanting to use the most recent Microsoft software products.
