- It is with great sadness that
we announce the death of Paula Pollock from cancer. Paula was first diagnosed
with cancer in December of 1997 and fought the disease valiantly to the end.
Rates for FY 2003-04
- ITSS would like to announce that
we have revised our previously proposed service rates and fees for Fiscal
Year 2003-2004. There will be no increase in any ITSS service rate or fee
for the coming fiscal year.
Mailboxes on your Hard Disk with Mulberry
- Some Mulberry users find they
have saved mailboxes (usually large ones) that they don't want to delete but
would rather not store in the Mail directory of their account due to file
storage costs. Mulberry 2.1.2 or later can create a "local" storage
area for mailboxes on your computer's hard disk (usually in the Mulberry folder)
where you can store older or large mailboxes.
Dropping Support for Windows 98 and NT4
- Microsoft has announced their
discontinuance of support for their Windows 98 and NT4 operating systems.
ITSS recommends that all workstations using the Windows 98 or NT4 operating
systems be upgraded to a more recent version of a Windows operating system,
which include either Windows 2000 or XP.
Steps to Reduce Spam
- ITSS intends to begin using a
new tool for spam reduction on Friday morning, May 9. We will use the Spamhaus
Block List from The Spamhaus Project.
- The Computer Corner and ITSS have
worked together to bring you special sale pricing on new computers this spring.
We have identified several models of computers that we believe would be good
standard models for many people at UMD.

- Here are some options for customers
looking for faster internet transmission speed when off-campus.

- Now that our new VPN server and
associated web pages are in place we can resume planning for securing information
that travels between the UMD campus and non-University networks.
To Offer Web Accessibility and Usability Services
- ITSS is developing a new service
to help units evaluate their web sites for accessibility and usability.

- ITSS is ready to accept requests
for class email lists (aka aliases) for Summer Session 2003 and May Session
Software List for ITSS Full Access Computer Labs for Fall 2003
- The Student Computing Team of
ITSS has compiled a list of programs that will be in the Full Access PC computer
labs for Fall 2003.
Microsoft Campus Agreement for Fiscal Year 2004 Planning Begins
- It's time for currently enrolled
departments to start planning for the renewal of our Microsoft Campus Agreement,
which expires on July 31st. This is also the time for other departments to
decide if they want to enroll in this program for the new fiscal year.

email lists. The goal of this digest is to distribute information that is useful
