Are You and Your Data on Speaking Terms? Managing Your Information Via the Web

Having trouble getting data from your databases or text files? Talk to ITSS staff about moving your data to central servers and creating web forms for entry, updating, deleting, or searching the data and for creating specialized reports or even report generators.

Tired of typing information from a form into an internal database? Talk to ITSS staff about making that form available on-line and having the requester fill it out for you.

Worrying about forgetting when software licenses expire? ITSS can tailor a system for you that can automatically email a notice of upcoming expirations or other due dates.

Here at UMD, the ITSS staff has developed web tools to do central systems billing, to check students into labs, to help filter email, to generate long distance and telephone equipment bills, to register computer equipment, to track our inventory, to record calls to the helpdesk, to register for ITSS classes. The interactive web forms found on our request pages are used to generate work orders, email notifications to appropriate people, and produce daily/weekly/monthly status reports. Requests can be filled out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Systems can even share data; for example, when the ITSS Help Desk receives a call and the phone number is entered, the information associated with that phone number (name, location) is automatically filled into the form. Information can also be made available to authorized users (for example, each person can see his/her current central systems usage).

We'd be happy to organize your existing data into databases or to create new applications and to create interactive web forms that could interface with your data. Your data will be secure: stored on a central system with daily backups. Restrict access or open it up. Provide your own images or have us use UMD templates. Contact Melissa Jokela ( or ext. 8468) for rates and more information or fill out the form on the ITSS requests page titled Database and Interactive Web Form Programming.
