Using your Novell account - Macintosh Computers

This section includes details on the following topics:

Logging in

To access the Novell services from Macintosh OSX, you need:

Novell account and password
You will receive an email with your Novell account name and a temporary password. The temporary password will expire after 7 logins; you must change it during this grace period or your account will be locked. To request an account, complete the online Novell account request.
  1. In the Finder, select "Connect to Server" from the "Go" menu.
  2. In the "Server Address" box at the top of window that appears, enter:
        officefiles

Click on the + (plus sign) button to the right to add it to your Favorite Servers list.
  3. Click "Connect".
  4. In the server login dialog box, change whatever username shows up in the "Name:" field (likely your OSX account's "long name") to your Novell account name.
  5. Enter your Novell password in the "Password" field and click the Connect button or press RETURN.
  6. You should then get a dialog box offering you the "Files" or "Mac Applications" volume. Click OK to connect.

Once connected, you can drag the Files volume icon to your Dock (on the side nearest the Trash icon) and use that for future connections. You'll only be connecting to the Mac Applications volume occasionally, so it's probably not worth adding it to the Dock.

Changing your Novell password (Mac OSX):

Your Novell account password will automatically expire every 365 days.

Macintosh password requirements:

To set your Novell password:

  1. In the Novell (officefiles) login screen click on the "Gear" icon and select "Change Password"
If you are using OSX 10.3 select "Change Password" from the Options menu.
  2. Enter your current (or temporary) 8 character password and your new password (twice).
  3. Click OK. If your new password is accepted you'll be returned to the login window
  4. Enter your new password and connect to the "Files" volume
Note: the login username that OSX automatically fills in may not be your OSX account name. Change it to your email/X.400 username.

Locked Accounts

As a security mesure, Novell accounts are automatically disabled if:

In either case, you will need to contact the ITSS TechCenter Help Desk at x8847 to renable your Novell account access.
