Updating your computer with the new Novell tree

UPDATED: 2/08

On August 21, 2004, the shared University Novell "tree" was renamed from "University_of_Minnesota" to "UofMN." Occasionally, we find a computer on campus that has not been updated to use the new tree name. You can make this one-time change by following the instructions below. If you would like assistance making the change, please contact the ITSS Help Desk (x8847) to arrange a site visit.

Step 1: Update the default tree

Resetting the default tree to "UofMN" is a simple, one-time process that you complete at login time.

  1. Start (or restart) your computer.
  2. On the Novell login prompt, enter your Novell user name and password. Click on the Advanced button to view the advanced options.

  3. Complete the fields as shown:
    Tree: UOFMN
    Context: People.DULUTH.UMN
    Server: Leave blank
  4. Click OK to save the changes and log on to Novell.

Step 2: Reinstall your Novell printers

  1. Select Start | Settings | Printers or Start | Printers and faxes.
  2. Note the printers you currently have installed. You will need to reinstall each printer that has "University_of_Minnesota" in the name.

  8. If prompted to install the driver on your local computer:
    • Click OK.
    • Select the Manufacturer (for example, HP) and printer type (for example, HP LaserJet 4M Plus), then click Next.
  9. Select Yes to specify this as your default Windows printer, then click Next.
  10. Click Finish.
  11. You should now see two printers listed, as shown below. Delete the printer with "University_of_Minnesota" in its name. (RIGHT-click on the printer, then select "Delete" from the drop-down menu).
