News

8.8.06: ITSS is working with Qwest Communications to replace our aging voice mail system with a new unified messaging system this summer. The new system will go live early the morning of August 30.

We will offer two types of training, Basic CallPilot Unified Messaging and My CallPilot Desktop Unified Messaging. I recommend that before beginning training, you visit our web site to review documentation. You will probably find it helpful to print out the Call Pilot Unified Messaging: Quick Reference Card before starting your training.

Basic unified messaging users will use web-based training to learn the commands for the new system. This system is available now, and you may use it at your convenience. To start your web-based training, go to this web site: RainDance: UMD On-line Training

Simply fill out the form with your name, email address, and UMD to begin. During this training you will be encouraged to connect to the new unified messaging system and set up your account. Voice mail messages will not actually be delivered to this system until the cutover date of August 30. This training will take you between 30 and 60 minutes. You may start, pause, and even return later to the system for review.

We are continuing to make progress replacing the older ivory phones. If your phone has not yet been replaced, you may still complete the web-based training. The new black phones will be useful when listening to messages, but you can set up your new voice mail box with the older phones.

We will be sending a separate message to those of you who have selected My CallPilot Desktop Unified Messaging about special training for this group. This includes our customers out at the Cloquet Forestry Center and Minnesota Extension Service in Cloquet. If you are not sure whether you will be getting this service, please check with your department liaison.

7.24:06: ITSS is working with Qwest Communications to replace our aging voice mail system with a new unified messaging system this summer. The new system will go live early the morning of August 30.

Our new Call Pilot unified messaging system will offer many new features, including:

ITSS has already worked with all departments on campus to determine which customers will have access to basic voice mail services and which will use the more advanced unified-messaging features.

In order for your desk phone to work correctly with our new system, you must have a black Nortel phone. We are currently replacing the older ivory phones. We expect to have all old phones replaced by August 11.

We will offer two types of training starting August 14. Basic voice mail users will be able to use web-based training to learn the commands for the new system. We are still working on the best method for unified-messaging training. Watch for details on training to come out in early August.

Our old voice mail system will be available through September to enable you to retrieve saved messages. It will not be possible to transfer saved voice messages to the new system.

Please keep in mind these significant dates, and watch for more details to follow.
