Voice Mail System Upgrade
ITSS is working with Qwest Communications to replace our existing voice mail system with a new CallPilot Unified Messaging sytem. Unified messaging systems allow users to integrate voice mail and email and to opt for either a phone or computer (web) interface to their messages.
We will be offering two levels of service:
- Basic CallPilot Unified Messaging: Access to your voice mail messages from your phone. This is similar to our current system, but with a new password, new command interface and some new features, including distribution lists, priority status, and customer operators.
All customers will need to complete the UMD On-line Basic CallPilot Training to set a new 6-digit password and to learn the new commands to manage their voice mail. The online training takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
For details, see: Using the Raindance Online Training or the CallPilot Training FAQ - My CallPilot Desktop Messaging: In addition to accessing your voice mail messages from your phone, you can set up a web-based interface to your voice mail messages, configure your voice mail settings from the web, forward voice mails to your email inbox, and more.
All customers who selected advanced voice mail options (unified messaging, TTS, SAM) will need to complete the 1.5 hour on-campus workshop, My CallPilot Desktop Messaging.
For details, see: What is My CallPilot Desktop Messaging?
Additional services such as Speech Activated Messaging (SAM) and Text to Speech (TTS) options are available on request. For more information, please contact the ITSS Help Desk (x8847).
News
8.8.06: ITSS is working with Qwest Communications to replace our aging voice mail system with a new unified messaging system this summer. The new system will go live early the morning of August 30.
We will offer two types of training, Basic CallPilot Unified Messaging and My CallPilot Desktop Unified Messaging. I recommend that before beginning training, you visit our web site to review documentation. You will probably find it helpful to print out the Call Pilot Unified Messaging: Quick Reference Card before starting your training.
Basic unified messaging users will use web-based training to learn the commands for the new system. This system is available now, and you may use it at your convenience. To start your web-based training, go to this web site: RainDance: UMD On-line Training
Simply fill out the form with your name, email address, and UMD to begin. During this training you will be encouraged to connect to the new unified messaging system and set up your account. Voice mail messages will not actually be delivered to this system until the cutover date of August 30. This training will take you between 30 and 60 minutes. You may start, pause, and even return later to the system for review.
We are continuing to make progress replacing the older ivory phones. If your phone has not yet been replaced, you may still complete the web-based training. The new black phones will be useful when listening to messages, but you can set up your new voice mail box with the older phones.
We will be sending a separate message to those of you who have selected My CallPilot Desktop Unified Messaging about special training for this group. This includes our customers out at the Cloquet Forestry Center and Minnesota Extension Service in Cloquet. If you are not sure whether you will be getting this service, please check with your department liaison.
Please keep in mind these significant dates, and watch for more details to follow:
- Telephone desk set replacement completed by August 11
- Basic training starts August 6
- New system live early morning August 30
7.24:06: ITSS is working with Qwest Communications to replace our aging voice mail system with a new unified messaging system this summer. The new system will go live early the morning of August 30.
Our new Call Pilot unified messaging system will offer many new features, including:
- Access to voice messages and mail box administration via the web (MyCallPilot).
- Text-to-speech capabilities for retrieving e-mails from a phone.
- Speech recognition of mail box commands.
ITSS has already worked with all departments on campus to determine which customers will have access to basic voice mail services and which will use the more advanced unified-messaging features.
In order for your desk phone to work correctly with our new system, you must have a black Nortel phone. We are currently replacing the older ivory phones. We expect to have all old phones replaced by August 11.
We will offer two types of training starting August 14. Basic voice mail users will be able to use web-based training to learn the commands for the new system. We are still working on the best method for unified-messaging training. Watch for details on training to come out in early August.
Our old voice mail system will be available through September to enable you to retrieve saved messages. It will not be possible to transfer saved voice messages to the new system.
