Computer systems and network electronics equipment must occasionally be shut down for routine maintenance and upgrades. Information Technology Systems and Services almost always tries to schedule these down times outside of regular working hours in order to inconvenience as few people as possible. We recognize that many people work on computer systems and the network during off hours as well. The purpose of this memo is to describe how we will manage the scheduling of maintenance work and how we will inform customers about this schedule.
ITSS staff will announce scheduled down times in a variety of ways.
Whenever possible, we will try to give a week's advanced warning of planned down times. Occasionally, however, equipment must be reset soon to prevent it from failing. In these cases, we will be forced to shut equipment down with minimal warning. We will try to limit these occurrences to the following time periods:
Please be aware that equipment does occasionally fail despite our best efforts at preventative maintenance. By taking these steps to clarify our planned down times, we do not guarantee that equipment will always work correctly at other times. We do hope, however, to minimize those failures and to keep you better informed with these procedures.
