Internet Explorer "Page Not Available"
Problem: I registered my connection, but when I use Internet Explorer (version 5), I get the message "Page not available" or "Page can not be displayed" for some sites.
Solution: Update your IE settings
Change the IE security settings
- Run Internet Explorer 5.x and click Tools from the menu bar
- Choose Internet Options, then click the Security tab
- Click on the Internet icon, then the Default levels button. Repeat for each of the items (Local Internet, Trusted Sites and Restricted Sites).
Remove any proxy server settings
- Run Internet Explorer 5.x and click Tools from the menu bar.
- Choose Internet Options, then click the Connection tab.
- Click the LAN Settings button.
- Uncheck Use a proxy server.
- Click OK to exit.
Check firewall settings
If you're running a personal firewall on your computer (such as ZoneAlarm or BlackIce), disable it or adjust the security settings.
Check for and remove file sharing programs (BearShare, WebEnhancer, KaZaa, Morpheus)
A number of file-sharing programs have been found to interupt a computer's TCP/IP (network) connection, so that network applications such as Netscape, Internet Explorer and email do not work properly. If you have one of these installed, remove them as follows:
- Go to START - Settings - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs.
- Remove any file sharing programs, such as BearShare, WebEnhancer, KaZaa, or Morpheus.
- Restart your computer and try Internet Explorer again.
