Run INETWIZ to set default connection to Ethernet
Problem: When I click on Internet Explorer, it tries to dial my old connection (MSN, AOL, Spry, etc.).
Solution: Change the default connection from modem to LAN (Ethernet) and remove any dial-up settings.
Change the default connection to LAN
- Select START - Run. At the command line, type in: inetwiz and click OK.
- Follow the prompts:
- Select Local Area Network (LAN) as the preferred connection type
- On the proxy server screen, uncheck all boxes (do not specify or search for a proxy server)
- When prompted to create a mail account (an MSN account), select No.
Try Internet Explorer again. If it still tries to dial a connection:
Remove any dial-up settings (such as MSN)
- Run Internet Explorer 5.x and click Tools from the menu bar
- Choose Internet Options, then click the Connection tab
- Delete any items listed under Dial-up Settings, such as MSN or AOL
- Click OK to exit
Try Internet Explorer again.
Is your connection working now?
- Yes --> Register your connection!
- No --> Check the Ethernet Adapter
