Removing Limewire
LimeWire automatically installs LimeShop, which monitors your on-line purchases and redirects sales commissions belonging to other referring sites to LimeWire. Uninstalling LimeWire does not automatically remove LimeShop, so they should be removed at the same time.
1 Uninstall Limeshop
- Verify that Limewire is not running - check the system tray in the lower right corner of your window for the Limewire icon.
- Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop (or choose Start - My Computer)
- Double-click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Select LimeShop from the list. Click Add/Remove, then click OK.
2 Uninstall Limeshop

- Double-click on Control Panel.
- Double-click on Add/Remove Programs.
- Select LimeWire from the list. Click Add/Remove, then click OK.
3 Delete any remaining Limewire files or folders
- Double-click on the My Computer icon on your desktop (or choose Start - My Computer)
- Double-click on Local Disk C: and then the Program Files folder.
- Right-click on the LimeShop folder, and select Delete.
- Right-click on the LimeWire folder, and select Delete.
4 Verify that all Limewire files and folders are removed
- Select Start - Search.
- Select "All files and folders".
- In the text box, type: Limewire
- Click the Search button.
- Delete any found items that have Ares as their name -- not just as part of their name (Ex: Delete Ares.xxx. Do not delete: Squares).
- Finally, empty any deleted Ares files/folders from the Recycle Bin.
5 Run a spyware check
Most adware and spyware is included with other "free" software that you download from the Internet. To find and remove it from your computer, try one of these programs:
- Windows Defender (beta) - free for all Windows computers
- SpyBot - free for use on all computers
- Ad-Aware - free for use on personal (not University) computers
- Spyware Doctor - free trial, paid full version
An important note: While the paid versions of anti-spyware can be set to update and scan automatically, most free versions require the user to manually download updates and run scans. Installing these free versions without running the updates or scans will not protect your computer.
