Installation of Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition rolls back when the status bar displays "Preparing Virus Definition Files"

Situation:
You are attempting to install Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition (NAV) client. The installation fails when the status bar displays the message "Preparing Virus Definitions", and then rolls back.

Solution:
Restricted permissions have been set for Administrators, Creator Owner and/or System to the registry keys needed to install NAV. To check and correct (if necessary) the permissions, please perform the following steps:

To verify Permissions on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel registry keys

  1. Click Start > click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
  2. Type regedit.exe and then click OK. The Registry Editor opens.
  3. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intel and highlight the Intel key.
  4. RIGHT click on Intel, then select Permissions from the drop-down menu.
  5. Confirm that Administrators, SYSTEM, and CREATOR OWNER are set to Full Control and change as needed.
  6. Click OK.

To verify Permissions on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services registry keys
  1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services
  2. RIGHT click on the Services key, then select Permissions from the drop-down menu.
  3. Confirm that Administrators, SYSTEM, and CREATOR OWNER are set to Full Control, click Apply to save any changes.
  4. Click OK.

To verify Permissions on the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec registry keys
  1. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Symantec
  2. Confirm that Administrators, SYSTEM, and CREATOR OWNER are set to Full Control, click Apply to save any changes.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Close Regedit to save any changes.

You should now be able to successfully complete your installation.
