Installing Ethernet adapters - Windows Laptop Computer

Instructions below are for installing a PCMCIA wired Ethernet adapter. For instructions on installing a wireless Ethernet adapter, see: Wireless Computing at UMD.

Ethernet adapter

  1. Turn the computer on.
  2. When the computer is ready, insert the Ethernet adapter into one of the slots in your laptop. Plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter and into the Etherjack in the wall.
  3. Windows should display a message indicating it has found new hardware. If prompted for the drivers, insert the driver disk/CD that came with your Ethernet adapter.
