Checking for an Ethernet Adapter
Many newer computers (Macs and PCs) have Ethernet adapters installed when you purchase them. If you are unsure whether or not your computer has an Ethernet adapter, try the following steps.
Windows 95/98/ME Users
- Select START - Settings - Control Panel
- Double-click on the System icon
- Click on the Device Manager tab. Find Network Adapters in the list. If there is plus sign (+) next to network adapters, click on it. If there is an Ethernet adapter (such as SMC or 3COM) listed, double-click on it. Check in the "Device Status" box; if it says, "This device is working properly," you have a properly installed Ethernet adapter.
