Register your computer

Before gaining full network access, you will need to register any computers you use with ITSS as follows:

  1. Disable wireless access on your computer; plug your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet jack.

    Currently, there is no wireless access in the residence halls rooms. Plug your Ethernet cable into an open Etherjack in your room. If your computer supports both wired and wireless, you will need to temporarily disable wireless access to register your computer.
  2. Open a web browser (Firefox, IE, Opera, Safari).

    You will have limited network access at this time, but the UMD ResNet Registration site should be displayed.

    If it is not displayed, try typing in the URL:

    https://netreg.d.umn.edu/

  3. Check your security settings.

    If you have a Windows or Macintosh computer, directions will be displayed for basic security settings. Install Symantec Anti-virus if you do not have a current anti-virus program on your computer.
  4. Review the ResNet Terms and Conditions that are displayed.

  5. Complete the online registration form.

    In the fields indicated, type in your University Internet (email) ID and password.
    • Your Internet ID and password are the same ID and password you use for University email and class registration.
    • Use all lowercase and only the first 8 characters for your Internet ID username (for ex: carl9999).
    • Remember that your password is case-sensitive.
    • Passwords with spaces in them or that are longer than 16 characters may not work. Please call the ITSS Help Desk (x8847) to get assistance with changing your password.
    • If you don't know your Internet ID or password, call the ITSS Help Desk (x8847).

    Click on the Accept and Register button. By clicking Accept and Register, you signify that you have read and will abide by the UMD ResNet Terms and Conditions.
