Register your computer or network device on the UMD network
For access to the University network (wired or wireless), you will need to authenticate with your University Internet/email ID and password.
If you do not know your Internet ID and password, please call or stop by the ITSS TechCenter Help Desk during business hours (Kirby Plaza 165, 218-726-8847).
Note: To register your game console or other network device, please see: Online Gaming.
If wireless service is available in your area, there will be three wireless service options:
- UMD-Secure SSID (recommended):
- Authenticated, encrypted wireless service for students, faculty and staff. Access by opening a web browser and selecting "Connect to UMD-Secure Wireless" to run the XpressConnect set up. Once configured, you will automatically connect to the UMD-Secure wireless service.
- UMD-Wireless SSID:
- Authenticated wireless service for students, faculty and staff. Access by opening a web browser and authenticating with your University Internet/email ID and password. You should also use the UMD VPN service when using this wireless service.
- UMD-Guest-Wireless SSID:
- Non-authenticated, limited wireless service for guests. Guest wireless service is rate-limited and restricted to web-only access (no email, VPN, ftp, or access to any authenticated resources such as the Library, etc.). Access by opening a web browswer and completing the Guest Registration form.
For details on accessing each of these wireless services, see: Wireless Access.
