Removing P2P software

Following are links to removing several common P2P apps. Other anonymous file sharing programs (BitTorrent, Gnutella, Morpheus) should be removed using a similar process.

Often, P2P programs also install spyware on your computer (such as NavHelper for Ares and LimeShop for Limewire). It appears that this spyware may keep your P2P connection(s) active even though you think you have uninstalled or disabled P2P file sharing. The only sure way to stop P2P file sharing: completely uninstall all P2P software.

Remember: YOU are responsible for programs running on your computer. If you need assistance removing P2P programs, contact ITSS TechCenter (x6116).

After uninstalling any p2p software, you should also check for spyware and adware. A few free spyware programs are:

An important note: While the paid versions of anti-spyware can be set to update and scan automatically, most free versions require the user to manually download updates and run scans. Installing these free versions without running the updates or scans will not protect your computer.
