Configure network software for Windows 2000

  1. Click on START - Settings - Network and Dial Up Connections
  2. Select and double-click on Local Area Connection
  3. In the "Local Area Connection Status" window, click on the Properties button.
  4. In the "Local Area Connection Properties" window, select and double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
  5. In the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties" window (shown), the following should be checked:
    Obtain an IP address automatically
    Obtain DNS server address automatically

    Click on the Advanced... button.

  6. In the "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" window (shown), click on the DNS tab.
    • For DNS suffix, type: d.umn.edu
    • Find the "Register this connection's address in DDNS" box and UNCHECK it to disable it.

  7. Click on OK until all windows are closed.
  8. Restart your computer to ensure that all changes have taken effect.

Run IPCONFIG

When your computer restarts, run the IPCONFIG utility to verify that your computer is properly configure for Ethernet access. [an error occurred while processing this directive]

If you still don't have an IP address in the format 10.5.xxx.xxx, go to Check the Ethernet Adapter properties.
