Using Video Game Consoles Online on ResNet

Problem: How do I use Xbox Live, PlayStation 2, PS3, or Nintendo Wii on ResNet?

Solution: Register your game console with ITSS.

Important Notes on Online Gaming

There is one network connection per student per room. You should register your computer first if you have one, then register your game console. You will need to swap the two back and forth on your network connection. Routers or hubs are not allowed on the University network.

Other than registering the game consoles, the University does not provide any technical support for online gaming.

For additional information or technical support, visit the official web sites at:
Playstation.com
Xbox.com
Nintendo.com

To connect your game console to the network, you must first register your console with ITSS. Non-registered consoles can cause serious problems on our network and have resulted in students losing their network privilege. If you're going to use Xbox Live, Playstation online, or Wii, register your game console.

Because a game console cannot pass the steps in our ResNet registration process, you'll need to provide us with your console's MAC address by completing the form below. Once we have registered your game console, you will be able to use it on the network.

To locate your Xbox MAC address:

  1. Turn on your Xbox console with no game disc in the disc tray.
  2. From the Xbox Dashboard, choose Xbox Live.
  3. From the Connect Status screen, select Settings
  4. The MAC address is the 12-character sequence at the bottom-right corner of the Network Settings screen.

To locate your Xbox 360 MAC address:

  1. Go to the System area of the Xbox Dashboard and select Network Settings.
  2. Select Edit Settings.
  3. From Additional Settings, select Advanced Settings.
  4. At the bottom of this screen you'll see a heading called Wired MAC Address. Enter the 12-character sequence into the web form shown below.

To locate your PlayStation 2 MAC address:

  1. Load the Start-up CD in your PS2.
  2. Make sure you have the network cable disconnected.
  3. Walk through the Start-Up CD until it starts testing your connection. The test will fail (because you disconnected the network cable).
  4. Press the Select button to display the Hardware (MAC) address.
  5. The 12-character Hardware number is the MAC address of your PS2; write it down to enter in the web form shown below.

To locate your PlayStation 3 MAC address:

  1. Under Settings choose Network Settings
  2. Select the Settings and Connection Status List
  3. Scroll down to find the 12-character MAC address

To locate your Nintendo Wii MAC address:

Important: The Nintendo Wii does not ship with the ability to connect to wired network connections. Students who wish to use the Wii online in the reshalls will need to purchase a Wii LAN Adapter and use an ethernet cable.

  1. From the Wii Channel menu, select Wii (the round button on the bottom-left of the screen with "Wii" on it) and then Wii Settings.
  2. Click the right arrow to go to the second page.  Select Internet, then Console Information.
  3. The MAC address of the Wii console's LAN Adapter is displayed on the second line.

Register your game console
