An Error Message says I'm not the Administrator
To install the security template, you need to install it using the Administrator
account that exists by default in windows XP and 2000. If you're using Windows
XP and don't see a place to enter a username, try pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del
twice. A different login prompt will appear. You should then be able to
type the user name "Administrator" and the administrator's password at the
prompt and login.
Forgot the Administrator password?
If you can't remember the password, sign on the computer with another account
that has administrative privileges and change the password on the Administrator
account. Go into the "Control Panel" (Click the Windows Start button and
choose Settings, then Control Panel) Double click "Administrative Tools"
Double click "Computer Management" Click "Local Users and Groups" Click
"users" Right click "Administrator" Select "Set Password" Type in New password
and Confirm new password Click OK a couple of times. Can't see the Administrator
account To install the security template, you need to install it using the
Administrator account that comes pre-loaded in Windows. Another option to
try: At the Welcome prompt on Windows XP Press ALT-Ctrl-Delete sequence
twice This should bring up an alternate sign on screen that should allow
you to locate the Administrator account.
You can also call the ITSS Help Desk at 8847 to setup a call and have an
IT staff member come and reset your workstation password.
Options for Windows XP Home Edition, Winwows 98/ME
For security reasons Windows XP Home Edition and Windows 98/ME clients should
be upgraded to Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000. University Campus
agreement allows this at no cost for the software for University owned computers.
See the Campus Agreement
webpage for details.
