The University of Minnesota has an agreement with Symantec Corp. to provide Symantec security software (formerly known as Norton Anti-virus) to the University of Minnesota community.
Who may use this software?
This software may be used as follows:
- On any computer paid for with University of Minnesota funds and owned by the U of MN.
- On one computer owned by any University of Minnesota staff or faculty member for personal use.
- On one computer owned by any University of Minnesota student for personal use.
Retired faculty and alumni are not eligible for this software.
Which version should I use?
The following versions are available:
- Symantec Anti-virus:
- Version 10 will automatically download and install updates from the Symantec server. Most faculty, staff, and students will want to use this version.
- Symantec Anti-virus + Firewall (Windows)
- The firewall version is intended for advanced users who want to increase their desktop security and understand how to configure a firewall to limit intrusions without affecting access to network systems and services. Use the firewall version ONLY if you fully understand how to configure a firewall, or you may lose network connectivity.
