Configuring the Symantec Client Firewall for Novell

If you use Novell, you will need to make the following change to your Symantec Client Firewall settings to enable you to login in to the Novell server when you turn your computer on. If you do not make this change, you will get a "Tree or server not found" error message when you attempt to log in to the Novell office server.

  1. Open Symantec Client Firewall, select Client Firewall, then the Configure button.

  2. Select the Advanced tab, then the General... button.
  3. On the "General Rules" window, select the Add button.
  4. On the "Add Rule" window:
    • Select "Permit" and click Next.

    • Select "Connections to and from other computers" and click Next.

    • Select "Any computer" and click Next.

    • Select "TCP and UDP"; select "Only the types of communications or ports listed below", then click the Add button.

    • Select "Individually specified ports"
      In the field provided for ports, type in: 427 524
      Select OK, then Next.

      Ports

    • For "When a connection matches a rule," can leave both selections blank and click Next.

    • Name the rule, "Novell Client" and select Next.

    • For the locations, check Default (Active) and select Next. then Finish.
    • After the client finishes loading the rules, select OK twice to exit.
  5. Restart your computer for the change to take effect.
