Installing the Symantec AntiVirus client for Macintosh OSX

Uninstall any previous versions of anti-virus software.
You can delete previous versions of Norton/Symantec AntiVirus by throwing away the Norton or Symantec folder in your Application folder and (most importantly) throwing away any folders located in /Library/StartupItems/ that have "Norton" or "Symantec" in their name (this is the "Library" folder at the top level of your hard disk).

After uninstalling the old anti-virus software, restart your computer.
Download the Symantec client

For OSX 10.4 -10.5 download Symantec AntiVirus 10

For OSX 10.2-10.3 download Norton AntiVirus 9

Immediately after installing Norton AntiVirus , run LiveUpdate instead of restarting your computer This will prevent a security error message. Once you have run LiveUpdate, restart your computer. (LiveUpdate is located in the Norton AntiVirus folder of your Applications folder.)
