| Requesting Server Software
Information Technology Systems and Services (ITSS) provides centralized software for use by campus customers in a variety of ways:
We have chosen to keep desktop services for students and faculty/staff on separate machines for a number of reasons: there is a limit on the number of users that can access a server, we charge differently for access, and the two groups of users have different needs. While many of the general-purpose applications on the lab server are also offered on the office server, many of the more class-specific applications are not. Faculty and staff requestsWe often receive requests from faculty members for access to the same software that their students are using in the computer laboratories. When possible, we will install the lab software onto the office server, where it will be available to all faculty who have a full-service Novell account. (Novell accounts can be charged against faculty research grants.) We also receive requests from faculty and staff to add new software to the servers for classroom or professional purposes. In some case, ITSS will purchase the software and in some cases we will share the cost with the department. While we welcome all requests, there are a few guidelines we must consider:
