September 2007: The University of Minnesota Duluth recently secured a site license for SPSS software for faculty, staff and students. SPSS is statistical analysis software that specializes in data mining, customer relationship management, business intelligence and data analysis.

The site license will replace the versions currently running on the Lab and Office servers and those provided by individual departments. The Unix version of SPSS is not affected by this site license.

Who is eligible?

All UMD students, faculty and staff are eligible.

What version and modules are included in the site license?

Faculty and Staff Versions: SPSS 15 for Windows Vista*, XP, 2000   *Requires the SPSS 15 Vista HOTFIX SPSS 16 for Mac OS X Modules SPSS Base Advanced Models Regression Models Tables Trends Categories Conjoint Exact Tests and Missing Values

Students Versions: SPSS 15 for Windows Vista, XP, 2000   *Requires the SPSS 15 Vista HOTFIX SPSS 16 for Mac OS X Modules SPSS Base Advanced Models Regression Models and Tables

What is the cost?

Faculty and Staff The annual cost per license for the first year is $270.00 for faculty and staff. Each license is valid for one computer only and will expire Dec 31, 2008. If you need SPSS on a second computer, you must request and pay for a second license.

Students in CEHSP, CLA, and LSBE: The collegiate units have paid the license fee for these students; SPSS will be available to them at no cost. Each license is valid for one computer only and will expire Dec 31, 2008. Students in CSE, SFA, MED, PHARM, CE or GRAD: The collegiate units have not paid the license fee for these students; students in these units may pay a $40 license fee to obtain a copy of SPSS. Each license is valid for one computer only and will expire Dec 31, 2008.

How do I get SPSS?

Faculty and Staff: If your department/college has paid the fee and provided your name to ITSS, follow the instructions below. If you were not on the original list provided to ITSS or need an additional license, contact your Academic Technologist if you have one; if not, contact Sally Bradt (x8856) from ITSS. SPSS 15 for Windows: Download and install SPSS 15 for Windows: --> Installing SPSS 15 for Windows If you have Windows Vista, you must also download and install the SPSS 15 Vista Hotfix: -->SPSS 15 Vista HOTFIX Activate your copy of SPSS: --> After downloading the installer, you will be emailed an Authentication Key which you will need to activate your copy of SPSS. Follow the instructions here or in the email to complete the license process. SPSS 16 for Macintosh: Contact Joel Ness (x8841, jness) for assistance.

Students in CEHSP, CLA, and LSBE: All students in these units will be able to authenticate and download the SPSS student version. • I agree that I am associated with the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) either as a full time or part time: (a) enrolled student; (b) faculty member; (c) employee; or (d) consultant or other agent of UMD who needs to use this software for UMD's internal use.
• I agree that I shall only use the SOFTWARE: (a) at UMD on computers which are owned or leased by UMD and controlled by UMD; (b) on the home computers of those authorized end-users that are UMD's faculty and staff; or, (c) as an authorized student on the respective authorized student's home computer or owned and operated portable computer.
• I agree that I shall not use the SOFTWARE for the benefit of any other party, including but not limited to commercial, timesharing, rental, or service bureau use and shall not process data of any other party.
• I agree that I shall not: (a) create, attempt to create, or permit or help others to create the source code from the SOFTWARE; and/or (b) reverse engineer or decompile the SOFTWARE or attempt to, or permit or help others to accomplish the same.
• I agree that I will not give, loan, or sell copies of this software.
• I agree that I shall not export, re-export, divert or transfer, directly or indirectly the SOFTWARE out of the United States of America.

The SOFTWARE is provided with RESTRICTED RIGHTS. Use, duplication or disclosure is subject to U.S. Government restrictions set forth in the Rights in Technical Data and Computer Software Regulations. Contractor/manufacturer is SPSS Inc/ 233 Wacker Drive/ Chicago, IL 60606.
