Installing SPSS 17 for Macintosh - Student Version

NOTE: SPSS 17.0 will not run on Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). See: Mac OS X v10.6: About incompatible software for details.

Mac OSX 10.6 requires PASW (formerly SPSS) 18. This version will not be available as part of the University site license until later this fall.

1 - Uninstall previous versions of SPSS

Before you begin installing this version of SPSS, it is very important that you
UNINSTALL any previous versions of SPSS
on your computer.

If you do not uninstall previous versions, your SPSS license may be locked and you will be unable to run SPSS.
If this happens, you will need to contact SPSS directly for an unlock code

The SPSS 16 adn 17 uninstallers are in a similar location in your Application folder.
Double-click on the _run.inf file to uninstall SPSS.

 

2 - Download SPSS

  You will be asked to authenticate with your University Internet/email ID and password to determine if you are eligible to download SPSS. To be eligible, you must be registered in CEHSP, CLA or LSBE; you are limited to one download of SPSS 17.
• Read the ITSS Terms and Conditions and select "I Accept".
  
  
  

3 - Select your operating system

On the Select Operating System window, check Mac OSX and click on the Download button.

4 - Download SPSS

On the ITSS Downloading window, Select "Click here" to begin the download.

5 - Install SPSS 17

 

1. Once the SPSS 17 disk image has finsished downloading your Mac will ask if you want to can mount the disk image.

If the disk imaged doesn't mount up look for it where your web browser saves downloaded files.

The downloaded disk image file is named SPSS 17 Mac Installr.dmg. The disk image that apperas when you double-click on the disk image is namded Disk1.

 

2. Once the download is complete, double-click on the SPSS 17 MAC INSTALLER.dmg file. It window below should appear.

NOTE: You will need to be connected to the Internet during the whole install process.

 

3. Enter your Mac's username and password to authenticate the install process.

 

5. Click on the "Site License" button and then click on Continue.

5. Make sure the "Accept" option is selected and then click Continue.

 

6. Fill in the data fields including your SPSS serial number.

7. Click Continue (select alternative Help language if needed).

 

8. Click Continue.

 

9. Click Install to begin the installation

 

10. Click OK to continue.

 

11. At this point, a number of windows will appear on the screen (some of these windows may take a few seconds to appear). One of windows is a web page from SPSS (you can close or ignore the web page). The only window you need to work with now is the Product Authorization window.

12. Enter your code once more and click Next.

 

13. When the End of Transaction text appears in the window click OK.

 

14. Click the Finish button and you've completed the SPSS instalation.

 

15. SPSS is installed in the SPSSInc folder in your Application folder.

 

16. Your SPSS program should look like this when you first launch it. Notice that the SPSS 17 icon appears on the Dock at the bottom of the screen when SPSS is running. If you want the SPSS icon to stay on the Dock when you're not running it, click and hold down the mouse on the SPSS icon and a menu will appear. Choose the Keep in Dock option and the SPSS icon will always stay on your Dock even when the program is no running.
