Installing SPSS 15 for Windows

Before you begin installing this version of SPSS, it is very important that you
UNINSTALL any previous versions of SPSS
on your computer.

If you do not uninstall previous versions, your SPSS license may be locked and you will be unable to run SPSS. If this happens, you will need to contact SPSS directly for an unlock code.

Follow these steps to successfully install SPSS 15 for Windows (detailed instructions follow):

• Download and run the SPSS 15 installer (setup.exe).
• Windows Vista computers only: Download and install the SPSS 15 Windows Vista Hotfix (SPSS15VistaHotfix.exe).
• Activate your copy of SPSS using the Authentication Key (AuthKey) sent to your UMD email account after you download SPSS. (Check for an email with the subject, "SPSS Software Installation Key.") You will need this AuthKey code to activate your copy of SPSS.

1 Download and install SPSS

1. Download SPSS. You will be asked to authenticate with your University Internet ID and password (this will determine if you are eligible to download SPSS).
2. Read the ITSS Terms and Conditions and select "I Accept".
   
   
3. On the ITSS Operating System window, check your operating system and select the Download button.
   
   
4. On the ITSS Downloading window, Select "Click here" to begin the download.
   
   
5. When prompted, select "Save file."
   
   
6. Find the location of the downloaded "setup.exe" file and select Open or Run. If you get a warning message about opening an executable files, select OK to continue. If you get a message about "unknown published," select Run to continue.
7. On the SPSS Welcome window, select Site License and then Next to continue.
   
   
8. On the SPSS License Agreement window, read the terms, check I accept the terms in the license agreeement, then select Next to continue.
9. On the SPSS Read Me window, select Next to continue.
10. On the SPSS Customer Information window, complete the fields as follows and select Next to continue:

    User Name: Your University ID
    Company: UMD
    Serial Number: leave blank

    
11. On the SPSS Destination Folder window, select Next to continue.
12. On the SPSS Ready to Install window, select Install to continue. The install will take a few minutes.
13. On the SPSS License and Register window, check "Get a license now", uncheck "Register with spss.com," then select OK to continue.
    
    
14. On the License Authorization screen, select Quit.

2 Install SPSS 15 Vista Hotfix (Windows Vista computers only)

If your have a Windows Vista computer, you must download and install the SPSS 15 Vista Hotfix. If you have Windows XP or 2000, continue on to 3 Activate your copy of SPSS.

1. Download the hotfix: SPSSVistaHotfix.exe.
2. Find the location of the downloaded "SPSS15VistaHotfix.exe" file and select Open or Run.
3. When the “Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard” window appears, click Next to continue.
4. Click Install to initiate the installation.
   
   NOTE: You may encounter a User Account Control dialog stating that a program, i.e. SPSS15VistaHotfix, needs your permission to continue. Click “Continue” to proceed with the installation.
5. When the installation is complete, click Finish.

3 Activate your copy of SPSS

Before SPSS will run, you must activate your copy of SPSS using the personal Authentication Key (AuthKey) sent to you via email.

1. Log in to our University email account and find the email message with the subject, "SPSS Software Installation Key." Locate your personal Authentication Key Code in the email.
   
   
2. Click on the link provided in the email for the Activation Tool. When prompted, select "Open with" to display the SPSS Activation screen. Complete the fields as follows and select Activiate SPSS to continue.

   User Name: Your University ID
   AuthKey: enter the AuthKey from your email

   
3. A message will appear indicating the activation was successful. Click OK to continue.
   
   
4. Launch SPSS
