SPSS Site License - Students

Installing SPSS 17 for Windows - Student Version

1 - Uninstall previous versions of SPSS

Before you begin installing this version of SPSS, it is very important that you
UNINSTALL any previous versions of SPSS
on your computer.

If you do not uninstall previous versions, your SPSS license may be locked and you will be unable to run SPSS. If this happens, you will need to contact SPSS directly for an unlock code.

2 - Download SPSS

  1. Download the student version here: [ UMD SPSS Software ]

    You will be asked to authenticate with your University Internet/email ID and password to determine if you are eligible to download SPSS. To be eligible, you must be registered in CEHSP, CLA or LSBE; you are limited to one download of SPSS 17.
  2. Read the Terms and Conditions and select "I Accept".

  3. On the ITSS Operating System window, check your operating system and select the Download button.

  4. On the ITSS Downloading window, Select "Click here" to begin the download.

  5. When prompted, select "Save file."

3 - Install SPSS

  1. After you have successfully downloaded SPSS, you will receive an email from ITSS with the SPSS Serial Number and Authorization Code. Find your email from "Helpdesk@d.umn.edu" with the subject, "SPSS Software Installation Key."
  2. Find the location of the downloaded "setup.exe" file and select Open or Run. If you get a warning message about opening an executable file, select OK to continue. If you get a message about "unknown publisher," select Run to continue.
  3. On the SPSS Welcome window, select Site License and then Next to continue.

  4. On the SPSS License Agreement window, read the terms, check I accept the terms in the license agreement, then select Next to continue.

  5. On the SPSS Read Me window, select Next to continue.
  6. On the SPSS Customer Information window, complete the fields as follows and select Next to continue
    User Name: Your University Internet/email ID
    Company: UMD
    Serial Number: Enter the serial number from the ITSS email you received

  7. On the SPSS Install Help window, select the language or languages of Help to install, then select Next to continue.
  8. On the SPSS Destination Folder window, select Next to accept the default location and continue.
  9. On the SPSS Ready to Install window, select Install to continue. The install will take a few minutes.

4 - License and Register SPSS

  1. On the SPSS License and Register window, uncheck "Register with spss.com," then select OK to continue.

  2. On the Product Authorization screen, select License my product now, then Next to continue.

  3. On the Enter codes screen, type in the Authorization Code you received in the email from ITSS, then Next to continue.

  4. If you have entered the code correctly, you will get a message "Successfully processes all codes." Select "Next" to continue.

  5. On the Licensing Completed screen, click "Finish."
