You'll create a simple Web page using Macromedia Dreamweaver and publish it to the UMD Web server for the world to see. Along the way you'll find out the meaning of words like local, remote, and ftp.
Before you start creating your first Web page, take time to think about why you are making a Web page at all. Think about your intended audience's needs, Internet connections (modem, ethernet), computing horsepower, and preferred Web browser. Keeping these in mind will help you make a good Web page and cut down on time spent fixing your Web page.
To follow this workshop, you need to have Dreamweaver 8. If you have an ITSS office server connection, Dreamweaver is available to you at no additional charge (along with some other great software). UMD's Computer Corner has Dreamweaver at educational pricing, and Macromedia has a demo available if you'd like to try Dreamweaver before buying it.
To the left in the "Inside Making Your First Web Page with Dreamweaver" column is the outline for this workshop, or if you want to get started now just head on over to "Adding and Changing Your Content."
