Defining a Site

Download the Example Web Site

  1. Download ExampleWebSite.zip onto your hard drive (not the desktop)
  2. If prompted, save the file to your hard drive and unzip
  3. If the file automatically unzipped on your desktop, move the unzipped folder into your hard drive

Define the Site

  1. Go to the "Site" menu
  2. Choose "New Site..."

(See Figure 2) As with setting preferences, the category column is on the left and the choices available for the selected category are on the right. The table below has suggestions for filling in the categories:

Suggested Dreamweaver Site Settings
Category Settings
Local Info
  1. Site Name: Same name as the "Local Root Folder"
  2. Local Root Folder: Browse and choose "ExampleWebSite"
Web Server Info
  1. Server Access: FTP
  2. FTP Host: www.d.umn.edu
  3. Host Directory: www
  4. Login: your internet (email) id

When you're ready, move on to "Server-Side Include (SSI) and Library Object."
