Flash 1: Getting Started with Flash

What is all this Flash stuff about? Isn't it just eye candy getting in the way of the real purpose of the Web?

Flash is like any other tool. Flash is neither inherently good or bad. Flash just is.

How we as authors use Flash determines whether it is good or bad. Even then, we may feel our use of Flash is good, but our users may think it's bad!

If you're not familiar with Flash, you may want to take a look at Macromedia's Flash Site. A great place to see creative uses of Flash is at shockwave.com. You'll also find out one of the requirements of using Flash is having the Flash Player for your computer.

To follow this workshop, you need to have Flash. If you have an ITSS office server connection, Flash is available to you at no additional charge (along with some other great software). UMD's Computer Corner has Flash at educational pricing, and Macromedia has a Flash demo available if you'd like to try it before buying it.

Below is the outline for this workshop, or if you want to get started now follow this link to "Instructional Design Considerations."
