Instructional Design Considerations

The first step in using any technology tool in education is to determine the outcome(s) you desire for your students. After making this assessment, you can determine the appropriate technology tool to use if one applies. Many links on instructional design may be found in the "Instructional Design and Development" section of ITSS' Educational Technology Resource Guide (ETRG).

For this workshop, the "Self-Experiment to be Flashed" exercise is to be made available to students at all times. It does not replace doing the experiment with the actual listed items, but it does allow the principles to be accessed from any Internet connection at any time of day. This easily allows a student to revisit the exercise as needed. In addition, the exercise will be put on the Web in a manner allowing for accessibility and different learner preferences.

Accessibility Issues

By its nature, Flash is not very accessibility friendly. Macromedia is working on this and has some suggestions at their Flash Accessibility Web site, but other actions should be taken on our part to ensure accessibility.

So, what can be done?

Learner Preferences

Many of the items that make for a more accessible exercise also address learner preferences. Take a moment to look at the VARK Web site to learn about the learner preferences to address in this workshop.

Once you're ready, please go back to the "Self-Experiment to be Flashed" page.
