Creating and Editing Tables

Below is what your completed table will look like:

Workshop Date Time Location
PageMill 3.x 03/01/99 10:15 AM - 12 noon Eng 204
PageMill 3.x II 03/01/99 1 PM - 3:30 PM Eng 204

The following items need to be put into a table row as headers:

  1. Workshop
  2. Date
  3. Time
  4. Location

These items will go into the cells under the headers:

The table will have three (3) rows and four (4) columns. To create this table:

  1. Go to the "Insert" menu
  2. Choose "Table..."
  3. Enter the appropriate number of rows (3)
  4. Enter the appropriate number of columns (4)
  5. For width, delete the contents

The other defaults are fine for now.

Once the table is created:

  1. Click in the first cell (top left corner)
  2. Hit the left arrow key (otherwise there will be a space before the first letter)
  3. Enter the first header item, "Workshop."
  4. Continue across the top row with the rest of the header items

You can hit the "tab" key to move from one cell to the next (no need for the left arrow when you tab, but you do need to use the left arrow if you click in an empty cell). Continue filling in the cells with the rest of the items until your table looks like the one above.

Completed table that has been selected showing the resize boxes around the border. Click once on the outside border of the table (you should see the resize boxes like in the picture to the right) and play with the inspector panel. Add a caption, change border size, etc. Just be sure to hit "enter" or "return" to see the changes.

When you've had enough, go on to "Creating and Editing Tables 2" for more fun!
