Publishing a Page

In Contribute, publishing a page (i.e. uploading it to the web) is very easy. When you are done editing the page and ready to show it to the world, follow these steps:

  1. In the toolbar, click the "Publish" button
  2. If you do not yet have a link to this page, you will get a warning message. If you are not ready to link up the page, click the "Yes" button to publish the page without linking.
  3. If this is the first time you have saved the page, you will be prompted for a name. Contribute will suggest a name based on what you titled the page when you first created it. Change the name of the file if you want. (Keep in mind that the first/main page of your site should be named "index.htm" or "index.html" for convenience of new visitors.)
  4. If this is the first time you have saved the page, you may also choose a folder to save the file into
  5. Click the "Publish" button

You can also save your page without publishing it to the web. This will save a copy on your current computer.

Note: when you save things to publish later, the files are kept on your computer. The location depends upon what operating system you use and which version of Contribute you have.

For Contribute 2:

Windows XP, 2000 - files are stored in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Contribute 2 where "username" is your username on that computer.

Windows 98 Second Edition - files are stored in C:\Windows\Application Data\Macromedia\Contribute 2

Macintosh OS X- files are stored in hard drive:Users:user:Library:Application Support:Macromedia:Contribute 2

To save without publishing:

  1. In the toolbar, click the "Save for Later" button
  2. In the "Pages" window (usually to the upper left of your working area in Contribute), you will see a list of recently touched files. Your page will appear here as either a "Draft" or as a "New" page. Files saved for later will not appear with their changes in browsing mode. If you click on the page in the "Pages" window, you automatically see the page in the main working area in editing mode

If you do not want to save your changes:

  1. In the toolbar, click the "Cancel" button
