Contribute 101: Edit a Page
Once connected to a website, you are in a preview/browsing mode. You can use
the page's links to browse around the website just as you would in a web browser.
Once you have located the page you need to edit, you can switch to editing mode.
To edit a page:
- Connect to the appropriate website
- Browse to the page where you need to make a change***
- Click the button "Edit Page" to switch to editing mode (Note:
the page may look slightly different in editing mode, depending upon the templates
and stylesheets in use by the website administrator)
- Make your changes
- Save your changes:
- You may save them locally to publish later by clicking the "Save
for Later" button
- You may save and publish (i.e. make public) by clicking the "Publish"
button
Note: when you save things to publish later, the files are kept on your computer.
The location depends upon what operating system you use and which version of
Contribute you have.
For Contribute 2:
Windows XP, 2000 - files are stored in
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Macromedia\Contribute
2 where "username" is your username on that computer.
Windows 98 Second Edition - files are stored in C:\Windows\Application Data\Macromedia\Contribute

Macintosh OS X- files are stored in
hard drive:Users:user:Library:Application Support:Macromedia:Contribute 2
***Workshop Exercise
- Click the link that is your name on the page entitled
"Links to Pages for workshop attendees"
- Switch to editing mode (see instruction #3 above)
- Change "Your name here" to your name
- Add information about you under the section "Office Information" such as:
- Department you work for
- Where your office is located
- What your extension number is
- In the tool bar, locate the icon for Page Properties and click it. Change
the title of the page to read "Contribute 101:<your name>"
where you insert your name in place of "<your name>"
- In the tool bar, locate the icon for Link and click it.
- Choose "Browse to Web Page"
- In "Link text", type University of Minnesota Duluth"
- Click the button to "Browse" for the URL. You should see the address
for the currently edited page - you can edit that so that you are at the UMD
home page (http://www.d.umn.edu)
- Click the "OK" button
- On the "Insert Link" page, click the "OK" button
- Hit your "Enter" key once or twice to give some space
- Type in "Important ITSS People:"
- In the tool bar, locate the icon for Image and click it
- Choose "From Website"
- Open the folder for demo11, if necessary
- Open the folder for images
- Click on either "Bruce1" or "smallbarb" to choose an
image
- Click the "OK" button
- Click the "Publish" button to save your changes, make them public,
and return to browsing mode
