Making links!
You have a few options on how to add a link to other pages, content or create a new page:
- Add a link to a new page that you are going to create
- Add a link to a draft or recently created page in your site
- Add a link to a web page
- Add a link to an email address
- Add a link to a file on your computer
Workshop Activity:
- You should be at your newly created "index" or "training" page, click on "edit" if you are not in edit mode.
- On your page, do one of the following to indicate where the link will appear:
- Place your cursor where you want the link to appear.
- Select text in the draft (highlight the text).
- Select an image in the draft.
- Click on the link icon

- Select "Create a new page".
- Select a Blank Page or another Starter Page.
- Enter a Title for your page.
- Select OK.
- Add text and format your page.
- Save your page by clicking on "Publish".
- You may notice that you do not have a link from this new page to your homepage. To create this link, select "edit" and follow the directions below on how to create a link to a "Drafts and recent pages".
- Once you have published your newly linked page, use your newly created link to navigate back to your homepage.
- At the homepage, click edit and create a link to your page (as you did in step 10).
Add a link to a New Page in your site:
On your page select a point where you want the link to appear (note: you can make text that is already on your site a link by highlighting it).
- Click the Link button, the select Create New Page . The Insert Link window appears.
- Enter the text for the link in the Link text text box.
- Select a page from the list of new pages formats.
- Enter a New page title.
- Click OK.
- This will bring you to the new page that you just created. If you are not ready to begin working with this page, select Publish and come back to this page later.
- To find your homepage, click on the Homepage link found on the left panel of the Contribute window or select File, open, and select your homepage.

Add a link to a Draft or Recent Page in your site:
On your page select a point where you want the link to appear (note: you can make text that is already on your site a link by highlighting it or by highlighting an image).
- Click the Link button, the select Drafts and Recent Pages. The Insert Link window appears.
- Enter the text for the link in the Link text text box.
- Select a page from the list of drafts and recently published pages.
Click OK.

Add a link to a web page:
- Click on the link icon on the toolbar (looks like a little chain link).
- Select "Browse to Web Page".
- Enter a name for the link in the "Link Text" box.
- Enter the web url if you know the address of the site you want to link to or select the browse button to find the site on the web.
- Once you have located the webpage, select ok.
- Select Ok.

Add a link to an email address:
On your page select a point where you want the link to appear.
- Click the Link button, the select E-mail Address . The Insert Link window appears.
- Enter the text that you want to appear for the link in the Link text text box.
- Enter the email address.
- Click OK.
Add a link to a file "From my Computer". Create a link on your website to a file from your computer, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF's, and more:
- Go to your contribute page and place your curser on the page where you want to insert a link to a file from your computer.
- Select "From my computer"
- Add the Link Text for the file that you will be attaching to the link.
- Select the browse button and select the file that you want to add to a page.
- You have just inserted the link to a file from your computer. Click publish to test the link and view the file.
