Contribute 3 - Basics

Creating your Homepage or a new page!

If this is your site and you are the administrator you will be able to create and add pages to your site by doing the following.

Please note, if you are using an access key to access a site administered by someone else, you may or may not have permission to add pages (and delete them). Please check with the website administrator if you have questions.

This is very important! Please go out to the web and enter your tilde information (e.g.,http://www.d.umn.edu/~jdoe) and test it to make sure that you do not have an active site that you may overwrite. If you are using your tilde account, please save your "index" page in a newly created folder (see directions below).

save confirmation window

6. The next window will ask you how you want to publish your new page.

If you are not using your tilde account and this is going to be the homepage for your site, your homepage must use the filename index.htm. Other pages in your site can have the same identifying filename as the page title, but not the homepage. Please note the web address for your site: http://www.d.umn.edu/~yourname/index.htm.

Remember! If you already have an active website, create a new folder by clicking on the "Choose Folder" button and save your "index.htm" page in a new folder.
