Computer Maintenance
Information Technology Systems and Services computer maintenance department provides services to University departments, employees and students on many items sold through the UMD computer corner or direct from a vendor. Yes, we may be able to work on your home computer as well - call for details.
We can provide:
- Computer hardware diagnosis and repair
- Advice on computer purchases
- Memory installations
- Hardware upgrades (including hardrives, DVD drives, motherboards, video cards, and more)
- Computer assessment and updates
- Desktop security check-ups
- Operating system installs/reinstalls
- Secure data deletion
- Virus and spyware removal

Supported equipment & vendors
While ITSS provides support for a wide variety of desktop equipment and vendors, warranty support is currently available for our primary hardware vendors: Apple and HP hardware (see Recommended solutions for details). For the fastest, most reliabable on-campus service and support, we encourage departments to purchase from our list of recommended vendors. Call ITSS at 726-7973 or send email with support questions, or call the UMD Computer Corner at 726-6218 for purchasing or pricing.
ITSS does offer nonwarranty services and support for most PC manufacturers for departments, faculty, staff and students. This includes University or personal computers, and computers not on our supported list. Please call if you have questions.
Rates
Most hardware repair, upgrade, or replacement work is billed at an hourly labor rate (for the current rate, see: Rates and Fees). Estimates can be provided on request. Some software services (virus removals, desktop security) are charged special rates.
We can accept charges to:
- Warranty Claims
- Parts covered by supported vendors during warranty period.
- Labor coverage dependant on vendor contract.
- A copy of the original invoice/receipt is mandatory.
- Labor coverage dependant on vendor contract.
- EFS accounts
- Needed prior to any work being done on departmental equipment.
- Cash
- We have arrangements with the UMD Computer Corner for cash payments for personal repairs/upgrades.
