The ITSS TechCenter in Kirby Plaza 165 combines our services for computer maintenance, desktop support, help desk, AV equipment checkout, and classroom and computer lab support into one area.
One place to stop - one number to call - for "Answers, Advice and Assistance" with all of your UMD technology needs.
Help Desk / Technical Support
The ITSS TechCenter offers free telephone or walk-in support for many technology services, including:
- Network access (wired, wireless, VPN, modem)
- Account or password issues
- Email problems
- Basic software application problems (installing, using)
- Basic virus/spyware problems
- Basic hardware diagnostics
- ResNet computer or game console registration
- Advice on computer purchases
Computer Repair and Maintenance
We provide warranty repair services for Apple computers and fee-based repair service for most any other make or model. Call or stop in for an estimate, or see Computer Equipment Maintenance & Repair for our current rates. If you need to leave your computer with us, we have a limited number of laptop computers that can be checked out while your computer in is for repairs.
Some of our fee-based services include:
- Computer hardware diagnosis and repair
- Memory installations
- Virus and spyware removal
- Operating system installs/reinstalls
- Hardware upgrades (including hard drives, CD drives, motherboards, video cards, and more)
- Desktop security check-ups for University-owned computers
- Secure data deletion (required before disposing of University-owned computers)
- Data recovery from damaged hard drives
Classroom Equipment Checkout
With your University ID, you can check out equipment for classroom presentations and meetings at no cost. Equipment available at the TechCenter includes:
- Projectors (portable and on carts)
- Laptops
- Portable conference phones
- Miscellaneous AV equipment (tape recorders, speakers, cabling, etc.)

Classroom and Computer Lab Support
We have staff that can visit classrooms and ITSS computer labs to resolve technical problems with equipment, including problems with projectors, computer lab authentication or printing, and more. Call x8847 during business hours to report a problem.
