Operating System Procedures (2011-2012)

ITSS TechCenter can upgrade, install, reinstall and configure your current OS for a flat fee. There are three OS packages. Prices do not include the cost of the operating system software.

Operating System CDs and Product Codes

For all operating system reinstalls, prices do not include the cost of the operating system software.

For personal computers: Customer must provide CD (Windows and Macintosh) and/or product key (Windows only). If you do not have the CDs or product keys, you may be able to purchase a new copy of Windows at msca.umn.edu (for students) or mass.umn.edu (for staff/faculty).
For University computers: ITSS can install the campus agreement version of Windows; customer must provide CD for Macintosh upgrades.

Software and Device Drivers

After an operating system reinstall, software programs and external device drivers will need to be manually reinstalled (they are not part of the data backup/restore process). You can reinstall these items yourself, or request that ITSS do this as a billable service.

For personal computers: Customer must provide CD and/or product key for all software. If you do not have the CDs or product keys, you may be able to purchase a new copy of the software at msca.umn.edu (for students) or mass.umn.edu (for staff/faculty).
For University computers: ITSS can install the campus agreement version of Windows Office. Customer must provide CD and/or product key for all other software.

Package 1: Operating System Installation [ Rates ]

Format hard disk
Install OS (for personal computers, customer must provide the CD/Product Key)
Install all appropriate drivers for internal devices
Configure for Novell and/or AD (University computers only)

Package 2: OS Installation + Data Backup [ Rates ]

Format hard disk
Install OS (for personal computers, customer must provide the CD/Product Key)
Install all appropriate drivers for internal devices
Configure for Novell and/or AD (University computers only)
Backup all data files on hard drive and store on DVD for customer (application software is not backed up)

Package 3: Hard Drive Install + OS Install [ Rates ]

Install hard drive (cost not included)
Format hard disk
Install OS (for personal computers, customer must provide the CD/Product Key)

Package 4: Hard Drive Install + OS Install + Data Backup/Restore [ Rates ]

Install hard drive (cost not included)
Format hard disk
Install OS (for personal computers, customer must provide the CD/Product Key)

Configure for Novell and/or AD (University computers only)
Backup all data files on hard drive and store on DVD for customer (application software is not backed up)
