Counter CGI

If you want to see how many people are looking at your web page, you can use one of two counters that UMD provides. One of the counters counts all hits to your web page. The other counter counts only the hits from off campus vistors. You can use counters from other sources if you want but we generally recommend not using third party counters since they can significantly increase the download time of your web page.

How to use the Counters

In the examples below, you will notice that only the case of the letter "C" is changed in the word counter. These are actually the different names of the two counters. Case does matter in the unix environment. Just put the appropriate line of HTML into the web page and the next time your page is viewed, your counter will start incrementing.

Count all hits to your web page:

<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/Counter"-->

Count only the hits from off campus:
<!--#exec cgi="/cgi-bin/counter"-->

Need Help?
